Transportation and Air Pollution Glossary

Concerns over air quality have resulted in an increase in media coverage. Students are constantly exposed to terms related to air pollution but may be unfamiliar with many of them. This lesson contains a glossary with many of the words students may have seen when reading the newspaper or watching the news.

Objectives:

The students will:

  • > familiarize themselves with terms associated with air quality and air pollution.

TEKS:

English, Language Arts, and Reading

  • Grades 6-8: 6C, 9E

Time:

Two days

Materials:

  • > Handout of Transportation and Air Pollution Glossary for each student

Directions:

  1. Divide students into groups.
  2. Hand out the Transportation and Air Pollution Glossary
  3. Give each group a list of glossary terms to look up and define.
  4. Have groups present/read definitions to the rest of the class.
  5. Ask the class which terms interest them the most and discuss. Encourage discussion of vehicle emissions and prevention measures.
